Afghanistan Ladies Refugee Team announces a team for friendly FIFA competition


After the three multi-day talent identification camps held on two continents, 23 players were selected to represent the Refugee team of Afghanistan for an upcoming friendly tournament organized by FIFA.

At the end of the month, the refugee team will travel to the VAE for a trio of friendly competitions as part of a four-team tournament. FIFA unites: Ladies series will be the first time that the Afghan women will taste international action in almost four years.

The players came together for the first time in the three FIFA-organized identification camps. The first camp was performed in Sydney, Australia, followed by two held in the renowned St. George’s Park National Football Center in Burton on Trent.

About 70 players in Australia and Europe were judged by the renowned former Scotland international Pauline Hamill, now as head coach, supported by an exceptionally female staff of more than 20 professionals who represent five continents.

The Afghan refugee team for women consists of 13 players based in Australia, five who live in the United Kingdom, as well as three from Portugal and two from Italy.
