AIFF ensures that the continuity of ISL in the midst of uncertainty above MRA renewal

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Saturday said it would take all the necessary steps to guarantee the continuity of the Indian Super League (ISL), a day after the organizer of the competition announced that the 2025-26 season was placed by non -relocated contractual issues.

In his first public statement since Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) informed clubs of his decision to suspend the planning for the coming season, the AIFF urged interested parties to stay patient while discussions about the Master Rights Agreement (MRA) continue.

«The Aiff and his stakeholders will take all possible steps and do all the things within their power to guarantee the continuity of the ISL in the best interest of Indian football,» the federation said in a short explanation. «We ask for the understanding of all stakeholders in the meantime.»

The MRA between FSDL and AIFF Die underlies the structure, operations and commercial framework of the ISL salvation on December 8, 2025. The competition, usually played between September and April, would be underway by that time, with teams and broadcasters that need clarity in the long term to plan logistics and commercial activations.

With reference to this lack of contractual security, FSDL brought to ISL clubs earlier this week that it was «unable to continue with the ISL season of 2025–26» and «put it on hold until further clarity appears».

The situation has caused concern in the Indian football ecosystem, especially with the ISL that is the top competition of the country and a crucial platform for clubs, players and sponsors.

During a hearing of the Supreme Court on 26 April 2025, the AIFF was advised by its legal adviser that the court had made the remark that the MRA should not be extended to further orders. As a result, the federation said, all discussions about the expansion of the agreement pending further instructions of the Supreme Court of India.
