Alexander Isak returns to team training in boost for Liverpool and Sweden

Alexander Isak’s expected return to team training on Thursday comes at a good time for both Liverpool and Sweden.

The striker has recovered from a broken ankle and fibula as Liverpool chased a Champions League spot and Sweden celebrated World Cup qualification.

Isak had to undergo surgery to repair injuries sustained from an opponent’s tackle during a December 20 match against Tottenham.

«I think it’s been very useful for us to have him back in a team that normally generates a lot of chances – and maybe not from the first moment he can start – in the last two months,» Liverpool coach Arne Slot told club media on Wednesday.

Isak, 26, joined Liverpool for a British record fee of $170 million after protracted negotiations with Newcastle at the end of last summer’s transfer window.

Slot’s team is in fifth place in the Premier League. Lihat juga assujxz4. The team will play Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday before traveling to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Slot adds: “Alex is in a very good place because Sweden qualified for the World Cup last night and he will also train with the group for the first time tomorrow.”

Sweden was one of the last teams to qualify for this summer’s World Cup. The Swedes secured their place on Tuesday with a 3-2 victory over Poland in a European play-off final.
