Alphonso Davies to miss March international friendlies: Canada manager Jesse Marsch

Co-host Canada has suffered a blow in its World Cup preparations after defender Alphonso Davies was ruled out of the upcoming friendlies against Iceland and Tunisia due to injury, head coach Jesse Marsch said Thursday.

Davies suffered a hamstring injury while playing for Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday, leaving the field in distress during a 6-1 win over Atalanta.

The 25-year-old only returned to action in December after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament tear suffered in March 2025.

Canada will face Iceland on March 28 and Tunisia on April 1 as part of their preparations for the World Cup, which it is co-hosting with the United States and Mexico.

“It will probably be two to three weeks before he gets back,” Marsch told TSN Sports.

«He probably won’t be with us in March, and that’s OK. We’ll probably leave him there in Munich and get him back to full fitness and 100%, and I’m confident he will do that.»

“It’s not easy when you come back from these long-term injuries… We just have to take the appropriate steps to ensure we don’t have any more setbacks.”
