Ange Postecoglou is convinced that Nottingham Forest can challenge for trophies

The new manager of Nottingham Forest, Ange Postecoglou, is determined that he can handle the pressure to make his club winners in Trophy while preparing for his debut against Arsenal on Saturday.

Postecoglou was hired by Forest earlier this week and returned to the Premier League only three months after Tottenham.

The Australian, who lost his job in Tottenham 16 days after winning the Europa League, arrived in the city area after the resignation of Nuno Espirito Santo.

Nuno dropped out with forest owner Evangelos Marinakis about the club’s transfer policy and paid the prize despite leading the European qualification for the first time in 30 years.

Marinakis greeted the appointment of Postecoglou by stating that Forest is ready to challenge for silverware.

That may seem like an ambitious explanation, since Forest has not won a big trophy since the 1990 League Cup.

But Postecoglou supplied his boasting that he always wins a trophy in his second season, while in Tottenham and the 60-year-old knows that he might have to achieve success even faster to satisfy Marinakis.

«I won a few in my first season. At Celtic I won a double in my first,» he said on Thursday.

«Maybe I have to win one to get a second year here. That’s what I want to do. I want to win trophies.»

He added: «Every club wants to be successful, but because the president has taken over the club, these ambitions are supported by actions. Perfect conditions for me.»

If Postecoglou can win a trophy for Bos, he would follow in the footsteps of Brian Clough, who led the club to a few European cups and the English title during the Golden Age of the club in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

However, Postecoglou did not want to be compared to Clough because he is looking forward to creating his own legacy.

«He is a stand -alone legend. He is one of these figures that you can’t compare with,» said the Australian.

«He is one of the most legendary figures that go around. He did it in a football club where nobody expected it. If I can bring the same joy as this club and this city, I will be a very happy man.»

Postecoglou was criticized for his ultra-attacking tactics in Tottenham, which contrast with the cautious style that brought bossover to Nuno.

The Australian’s game plan was exposed when Tottenham finished 17th last season, but he will not compromise.

«I like to play exciting football and score goals. Let fans certainly make it enthusiastic. There is no excuses about that. That’s just the way I am and the way I want to see my teams play,» Postecoglou said.

«The fans are not going to love me from the first day. I have to earn their respect.»
