«Why would you want to walk 500 miles alone?»
«You must be careful; anything could happen.»
«I would really want you not to climb to this path.»
These are all the things I have heard as more friends and family learned from my plans to walk along the Colorado path, taking the West University Route. Fortunately, I have never been one to let fears get in my way of what I wanted to achieve.
I didn’t know about the Colorado path until I moved to Colorado in 2013. It was a path I learned quickly, but it seemed nothing I could do. I had walked and camped a lot as it grew, but my father was the guy who brought everything except the kitchen sink. If I would ever want to do the CT, I would have to learn how the camp very differently. Even if it were just an impossible dream at that time, I knew I would change life if I could achieve it. Over the years, I started walking, camping and backing throughout Colorado, getting more and more comfortable with my skills and loving every minute. Even so, walking 500 miles seemed impossible.
It started with a renal donation.
Fast advance until 2020/2021. One of my friends needed a kidney transplant and decided to see if it was a game. To my surprise, I was, and surgery was scheduled for February 2021. I spent a lot of time in 2020 backpackers (I mean, I didn’t need a mental health impulse that year). I did not know that the time dedicated to the road would also help me prepare and recover from surgery. Once we had our surgery, I was already anxious for the next time I could return there. I started walking again just one month after the operation.
After learning how many people fight with kidney disease, I decided that I would find a walk and make it a collection of funds for the American kidney background. I terrified the greatest number of schools I could handle, with the aim of at least 100 miles. Only 6 months of our surgery, I started my walk. I stayed a little below my goal with only 60 miles from the completed schools, but I raised around $ 2000 for the AKF. After that, I knew that the complete path would eventually try to try again.
Time is marking.
In my «real life», full -time work as a nurse in Arkansas, so I was not sure if I could even walk through the CT. Who can afford to leave their job or take a month of pto just to walk? Well, it turns out that working as a nurse is useful there, and I could take a month of pto to do exactly that. Now, I’m just a few days after starting my adventure on the Colorado path. When preparing for the path, let’s say that «mistakes were made» it could well have been my nickname.
Last year he has been full of ups and downs to get to this point, and I’m not sure that no amount of training makes me feel ready. But I am here, and time is marking until that path steps. Yes, I will be on excursion alone. I trust me, I would love to share this experience with one or two selected humans, but the schedules do not always align. However, I know that I will meet some new friends along the way! I am as ready as I can and I am very excited to share my trip with all of you!
