Arsenal signs Brentford Captain Christian Norgaard to strengthen midfield


Arsenal has confirmed the signing of Christian Norgaard from Brentford on Duesday to strengthen midfield after departure the season in the Close season.

Financial details were not disclosed, but British media reports said that Arsenal paid an initial reimbursement of 10 million pounds ($ 13.60 million) to sign the 31-year-old Denmark International for a two-year deal with an option for a third year.

«He is an international player with a wealth of experience with the Premier League. He has proven leadership skills and a strong character that will be invaluable to our team,» said Arsenal Mikel Arteta in a statement.

«He is a strong midfielder with excellent tactical consciousness and versatility. He also has physical presence and intelligence that will give us extra depth and balance. Christian will bring the group a lot both on and outside the field.»

Norgaard is the third recruit of Arsenal in the short season after the goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea and defensive midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad had signed.

Arsenal has effectively replaced Jorginho and Thomas Partey after the contracts of the two midfielders ran at the end of June.

Norgaard, who spent six years in Brentford and helped them promote to the Premier League in 2021, was also the captain of the club in the last two seasons.

A reliable central midfielder in the Brentford team, Norgaard has made 122 Premier League performances in four seasons.

Arsenal starts with his Premier League campaign on August 17 when they travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United.
