Arteta supports Arsenal’s handling of party departure

Arsenal –Baas Mikel Arteta defended the handling of the club of the departure of Thomas Peny on Monday after the international midfielder of Ghana was arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual attack.

Arsenal did not offer the 32-year-old at the end of last season and days later he was accused by the British police of five counts of rape and one count of sexual violence between 2021 and 2022.

Partey will appear on August 5 before the magistrates in London.

In a statement released on July 4, the day that Partey was arrested, Arsenal said: «The player’s contract ended on 30 June. Due to current legal proceedings, the club cannot comment on the case.»

Arteta was asked during the pre-season tour of Arsenal by Singapore or the allegations against Pedey were the decisive factor that he was released.

The Spaniard said he was «100 percent» convinced that Arsenal had followed the correct procedure, and added: «The club was very clear in his statement. There are many legal things that are very complicated, so I can’t comment on that.»

Pedey came to Arsenal in October 2020 for £ 45 million from Atletico Madrid.

He appeared 35 times in the Premier League last season and scored four goals and 12 times in the Champions League.
