Atletico Madrid announced on Monday the death at the age of 91 of club legend Enrique Collar, who led the team to a league title and three cup successes in the 1960s.
“The red and white family loses a symbol that gave everything to take Atletico Madrid to the top of national and continental football,” the club said in a statement.
The left winger scored 105 goals in 470 appearances for Atletico between 1953 and 1969 and captained the side for ten years in the 1960s, making him the club’s longest-serving captain.

He was on the scoresheet when Atletico defeated perennial rivals Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the 1960 cup final, before winning further trophies in 1961 and 1965.
His leadership also saw the Spanish capital’s less fashionable team claim the 1965/66 league title in a decade when Real dominated the top flight.
Collar also won the 1962 European Cup Winners’ Cup and earned 16 caps for Spain at the 1962 World Cup in Chile. He retired in 1970 after a season with Valencia.
