Austrian women’s football player Alexandra Wimmer dies in a horrific accident at the age of 20


Women’s football was rocked by a sudden tragedy when 20-year-old footballer Alexandra Wimmer died in a horrific accident in Austria on Thursday, local media reported.

Wimmer, who formerly played for Austrian club SPG Blau-Weiß Linz/Kleinmünchen, died in a car accident in Linz.

According to local media, the youngster was on her way to school for her exams and was driving through the Mona Lisa tunnel with a 15-year-old next to her when her car collided head-on with a truck on a bend.

Wimmer died at the scene of the accident, while the teenager was rushed to hospital.

«We are speechless and deeply shocked. You were far too young and still had so much ahead of you. Lihat juga oaYsz. Your smile, your energy and the memories we were able to share with you will last forever,» Wimmer’s club wrote on Instagram.

The promising youngster recently featured in the Women’s Future League at the Upper Austrian Academy, with her last appearance coming in the 2-2 draw against Vienna U20.

«You were not only a teammate, but also a very important part of our club. It is almost impossible to put into words how much you will be missed. Our thoughts are with your family and all your loved ones at this difficult time. Rest in peace, Alex. Forever in our hearts,» the club added.
