Autumn in the Azt – The walk

Meowdy, my dear mountain goats!

I am preparing to start a whip of approximately half of the Arizona Trail (AZT) with a plan to finish the rest in next year or two. Currently, some of the AZT near the northern edge of the Grand Canyon are closed due to the fire, so I hope it has reopened when we return to finish this path. I am very excited now that it is less than two weeks! At first I was quite annoying because I would have to miss learning on India at school, but Azt is calling. There is an invisible cord that takes me to the land of Arizona resistant to spend time walking in the desert. A part of my heart always remains in the desert after living in Santa Fe, Nm for some years. We will start at the southern edge of the Grand Canyon and go to Sobo. Our eyes are ending up in a few weeks, but I can’t lose more than three weeks of school, so we will have to see how far we get.

My goals for this walk

I established three goals when I walked the JMT earlier this year. I have the dream of visiting the 60 national parks before I am 40 years old (so far I have ruled out 25!) And one of my goals was to verify 3 while I was in the JMT. The goal found!

Half dome

NoMber 2 was doing a plot. Well, that really didn’t happen because my mother, trucks and I didn’t find our «group of souls.» My last intention was to the summit of Monte Whitney. And I am pleased to inform that I am the first Athenian to set foot on the summit of Mount Whitney. Now, walking the JMT was my idea and I had a lot of time to reflect on the objectives I wanted to establish. Azt is a bit different, because my mother chose this walk and at first I was not sure what my goals would be. The dreams that I have established for this walk are out of my control, but here we go:

  1. Seeing a horny toad. (Really, really, I really hope to see a horny toad!)
  2. Making a tram. I’m going to try again.
  3. Do not get angry with my mother for making me take twice as much water as usual. Ha! (Definitely not in my control!)

I have already been on the north edge of the Grand Canyon with my parents in 2020 on our road trip in the middle of the COVID19-leet-shrep-to-the-the-the-the-the-the-the-the-the-the-the-the-the-the-the-the-the-the-the-the-the-the-enthe-the-the-the-the-the-edge edge. I am very excited about that!

I want to walk

I thought I would share a small list of through the children I dreamed, because it seems inspiring when I listen to what other hikers are interested in walking. Maybe this gives some ideas for your list or I could throw a little more in my way. I decided in 2024 that I wanted to walk the tiara. If it is not familiar, Tiara paths are the John Muir Trail, Colorado Trail and the Long Trail. The Long Trail will probably be next year in the summer and we are planning to do the Colorado path in 2027. I also want to experience what it is to walk near the beach, so I would like to walk along the Oregon coastal path at some point. And, obviously, the Azt! Yes, here we go!

It is a team

Here is my list of what I will bring.

  1. DURSTON WAPTA 30 backpack
  2. Topo mountain runners
  3. Altra Gaiters
  4. Hats (1 for heat and 1 for sun protection)
  5. Rei Trekking posts
  6. King’s balologists
  7. Clothing: 2 pairs of cursed socks, 2 pairs of light shorts, merino base layer pants, leggings, hooded sweatshirt, 2 shirts, sports bra and underwear, buff, waterproof, Colombia puffy.
  8. look
  9. Kelty backpack
  10. Termarest Neoir Xlite
  11. Sea pillow to summit
  12. Water bottles: smartwater, mini nalgene and c-noc
  13. knife
  14. Cob
  15. Black diamond head lamp
  16. Soto Cook Pot

I have a rather basic list of things, but I make it work.

In the end

I am excited to start the path and what I am nervous is the water … ER, should I say cow channels! I don’t know if I can share a bucket with a cow. It’s not that I don’t like cows, but … you know what I mean. I tell myself that I have to try before saying that I can’t. I hope you can take this advice and use it to decide if you want to make a long distance walk.
