India will take on Bangladesh in an inconsequential AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifier at the Dhaka National Stadium on Monday.
The Indian campaign ended on October 14 in Goa, when the country squandered a 1-0 lead and lost 1-2 to Singapore.
The defeat left the Blue Tigers with two points from four games. Even if India wins its remaining tie, it can only manage eight points, something Singapore and Hong Kong have already secured and will surely surpass.
Bangladesh also have two points as the two sides aim for a strong finish in the group and FIFA ranking points.
When and where does the AFC Asian Cup qualifier between Bangladesh and India start?
The match will start at 7:30 PM IST, 8:00 PM local time, at the Dhaka National Stadium on Tuesday, November 18.
How to watch the AFC Asian Cup Qualifier between Bangladesh and India?
The match will be streamed live on the Fancode app and website in India. There is no live broadcast of the match.
You can also follow the Sports stars app and website for all pre-match build-up and live updates from the match.
Will Ryan Williams play?
The squad for the match in Dhaka includes Australian-born forward Ryan Williams, who recently obtained an Indian passport.
He has traveled with the team, although his availability will depend on receiving an NOC from Football Australia and subsequent approvals from FIFA and AFC.
This will be the 30th meeting between the sides (India leads 14-4 in wins).
It will also be India’s first match on Bangladeshi soil in 22 years, since the 2003 SAFF Gold Cup where the home side won 2-1 at the same venue.
«We are happy to be here and it is our pleasure to be in Bangladesh. Bangladesh are a good team and it will be a good match,» Jamil said on the eve of the match.
Focus on the youth
Goalkeeper Sahil, one of the seven uncapped players in the squad, added: «It’s an important match for us tomorrow and we have prepared well with the team in the camp in Bengaluru.»
India trained in Bengaluru from November 6 before traveling to Dhaka on Saturday and have since held two sessions here.
Jamil has prioritized youth for this match, with Sahil, Hrithik Tiwari, Pramveer, Lalremtluanga Fanai, Mohammed Sanan and Bikash Yumnam all in line for potential debuts.
Brison Fernandes and Macarton Louis Nickson, each wearing one cap, further emphasize the new direction.
«I am happy because everyone is working very hard. The new players also know the importance of this game,» Jamil said.
In a friendly match at the same venue last week, Bangladesh drew 2-2 against Nepal with midfielder Hamza Choudhury scoring twice.
Jamil emphasized that India would prepare collectively for the host country rather than monitoring individual threats.
«Bangladesh have good players and so do we. We are thinking about our opponents as a whole. It is a very important match. We have to think carefully, stay calm and aim for a positive result,» the Indian coach said.
