Bayer Leverkusen extends Patrik Schick’s contract until 2030

Bayer Leverkusen has expanded a contract for the Czech -striker Patrik Schick Schick until 2030, said the German Bundesliga club on Monday.

Schick’s original deal was to walk off in 2027.

The announcement came after a series of important players left the club out of season this season.

They include midfielder Granit Xhaka, attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and defender Jonathan Tah – all crucial for Leverkusen’s League and Cup Double in 2024. Coach Xabi Alonso also left for Real Madrid.

Schick was the top scorer of Leverkusen last season with 27 goals in 45 games and scored a total of 64 goals in the Bundesliga for the club since his arrival in 2020.

Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, who was appointed to replace Alonso in May, is confronted with a large rebuild because of the departure.

The expenditure outside the season of Leverkusen has so far gone to the American attacking midfielder Malik Tillman of PSV Eindhoven and former Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah, while the club has also signed Brentford’s highly appreciated goalkeeper Mark Flekken.

«Bayer 04 works hard to put together a top team for the future,» said Schick. «I am firmly convinced that we will continue to play an important role in the Bundesliga and in Europe.»
