Brazil beats Colombia on penalties to lift Copa America Femenina title


Brazil successfully defended the Copa America Crown for women with an exciting 5-4 penalty shootout victory on Colombia in Saturday’s final in Quito and claimed the ninth continental title.

The match ended 4-4 after extra time.

Linda Caicedo gave Colombia the lead in the 25th minute before Angelina equalized the place just before half -time. Tarciane’s own goal brought Colombia back in the front in the 69th minute, but Amanda Gutierres went again in the 80th.

Mayra Ramirez restored the lead of Colombia two minutes in time, only for Brazil Great Marta to equalize the stop in the stopping time and then again to score in extra time.

Leique Santos made it 4-4 with a beautiful free kick to force a penalty shootout, with the Lorena of Brazil saving Carabali’s effort to seal the victory.
