Bundesliga 2025-26: Dortmund’s Adeyemi fined for his emotional reaction to his substitution

Borussia Dortmund striker Karim Adeyemi risks a fine from the club for his emotional reaction to his substitution, says sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

The German winger walked past the Dortmund bench and headed towards the dressing room after being sent off in the 60th minute of his team’s 2-0 Bundesliga win over Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday. Kehl was shown grabbing Adeyemi by the arm to stop him from leaving as the pair exchanged words.

«I told him: ‘You are not going to the dressing room, sit down’, and to be honest the substitution was partly justified. Karim did not play a good game,» Kehl told broadcaster Sky after the match.

«It just doesn’t work that way. The coach makes a decision and the players have to accept it,» he added. “We don’t want to see this reaction and that is why he is being fined for it.”

Dortmund’s victory over Gladbach extended its unbeaten Bundesliga run to eight games and closed the gap on leaders Bayern Munich to six points, although Bayern play on Sunday.

Despite this, the team’s recent form has been mixed in all competitions. There were boos from the crowd at the end of a draw with Norway’s Bodo/Glimt that left Dortmund 10th in the Champions League and a German Cup third round defeat at the hands of Bayer Leverkusen.
