Bundesliga 2025-26: Kane scores brace, Kimmich scores late winner as Bayern Munich beat Borussia Dortmund

Bundesliga top scorer Harry Kane scored twice in 16 minutes, and Joshua Kimmich grabbed the winner in the 87th minute as visiting Bayern Munich fought from a goal down to beat title rivals Borussia Dortmund 3-2 in a pulsating Der Klassiker on Saturday.

Thanks to Kimmich’s stunning late volley, the win took Bayern a big step towards retaining the crown. The Bavarians are eleven points clear of second-placed Dortmund, while the Ruhr club’s title hopes all but ended with ten games remaining.

England captain and man-of-the-match Kane, who equaled a league record with at least two goals in four consecutive games, has now scored 30 times in 24 league games this season.

The 32-year-old wants to break Robert Lewandowski’s all-time Bundesliga record of 41 goals. He also equaled a league record with his 10th converted penalty.

Kane’s scoring form has taken him to the brink of a second league title with Bayern, while also seeing him reach the semi-finals of the German Cup and the round of 16 of the Champions League, with the start of the World Cup just over three months away.

Dortmund, who were knocked out of the Champions League play-offs by Atalanta in midweek, needed a win to have a realistic chance of staying in contention for the championship.

«It’s a huge win for us in this title race. We managed to come from behind, we played our game and knew they would be tired after a midweek game. We never gave up. It’s very special to come here and win. We can be proud of this win,» he said.

The visitor made a strong start with five attempts on target before Dortmund scored against the run of play when Nico Schlotterbeck headed in Daniel Svensson’s corner after 26 minutes.

But Kane remained unmarked in the 54th, tapping in from Serge Gnabry’s header before converting a penalty to put the visitors ahead after 70 minutes.

Dortmund leveled in a rollercoaster final through Svensson’s brilliant 83rd-minute volley, but the visitor bounced back again to take the three points when Kimmich himself fired home a brilliant late volley wsx2.
