Bundesliga 2025-26: Kimmich and Neuer among absentees due to injury-hit Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany confirmed that captain Manuel Neuer and Joshua Kimmich were among those absent for Sunday’s Bundesliga match against Heidenheim.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday ahead of the final match of the calendar year, Kompany said Sacha Boey would also miss due to injury. Konrad Laimer is suspended while Nicolas Jackson is away for the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal.

Long-term absentee Jamal Musiala returned to team training this week but would not return until 2026.

French winger Michael Olise, who underwent eye surgery earlier this week, is expected to return, as is Luis Diaz who was sidelined with suspension last week.

The reliable Olise has not missed a match due to injury since joining Bayern from Crystal Palace in 2024.

Kompany said Germany captain Kimmich is still struggling with an ankle complaint he suffered in November while on international duty.

«We’ve had so many games lately that at a certain point the pain became too much,» Kompany said, adding that Kimmich had been playing on the borderline of what was too painful for weeks.

Undefeated Bayern had an almost flawless league season this season, dropping only four points in the first fourteen games.

The leader is six points ahead of second-placed Borussia Dortmund, which has played a game more.

Saturday, German tabloid Image reported that Bayern would extend its partnership with winger Serge Gnabry for two years until 2028.

The former Arsenal striker has been with Bayern since 2017 and has impressed this season with five goals and seven assists in all competitions.

The 30-year-old has also returned to form at international level, with three goals and an assist in Germany’s six World Cup qualifiers.
