Case snakes (again), Birthdays and clown cars: PCT Days 56 to 58

Naturally I woke up at 4:30 and moved on and packed. I stayed for a while, socializing with the other hikers while they woke up and prepared for the day, but finally I got tired of postponing and moved.

Nohawk, my trail Namer and me.

The ascent was quite without incident. I ran out of water a little faster than expected and filled in Fox Mill Spring. I saw evidence of what could be an old mining claim. I photographed some bees sleeping in the flower of a thistle plant. Nothing really stood out until I cried the upper part and suddenly stopped me in my first real look at the mountains.

There they are, my future is coming in front of me.

I went downhill for approximately 2 miles before stopping for the brunch and a break that later became a nap. I continued to Manter Creek and met with Magic, Helicopter and Pisa. I considered camping right there, but the day was hot and the river 4 miles was tempted to swim, so I went ahead. Mission, Big Bill and Airbender appeared when I left.

A very wide lizard.

I walked less than a quarter of a mile before surprising a rattlesnake that is raised, surprising and getting stumbling along the way. We looked at each other for a long minute before he slide into a nearby bush. I found 2 more snakes on the road to the river, fortunately both Gopher snakes. Pisa, randomly had climbing shoes hanging from her backpack from a side trip, stopped to climb a tempting rock and stayed to make sure she didn’t fall and die. He did not.

A very angry snake. However, there are no rattles!

I spent a single swimming place, but I went ahead, without realizing that it was the only good location. Oh, well, the shadows were becoming long anyway and the temperature was already falling. I camped with magic, great ticket and Airbender and I had a good dinner meeting place, except the discovery that there were mice wandering through the camp in the dark.

Day 57: Nebrero

I woke up the understanding that it was a older year. Big Bill and Airbender had furtively made a «32» with sticks next to my store at some time at night. However, I did not take much to appreciate it, since Kennedy Meadows and the possibility of a bizarre breakfast called me with my fingers. It was 7:30 when I left and breakfast ended at 9; Hiker Math calculated that if he moved at 3 miles per hour per 4 miles, he would do it at 8:50, in time to get those pancakes. That is a fast rhythm, but at a relatively limited distance, so I did.

I paused during the 10 seconds necessary to make my mandatory selfie with the 700 mile score.

I reached those 4 miles in the ass, pushing to keep the rhythm up and jog down the descents. When I entered the parking lot of the general store, someone in the courtyard furiously touched a cowbell and all the others cheered, a celebration provided to all hikers who managed to get so far. The experience was strangely intense for me. The emotion of my birthday, the emotion of hurrying the 4 miles, the cheers and the anticipation of the pancakes are combined in a feeling of intense joy. When was the last time I felt so happy and satisfied?

I did it on time for the pancakes.

Pancakes! Not in the photo (because they were under the pancake): hash brown, eggs and sausages.

I configured the camp and made brief circuits of the two -foot adventure trailers and the triple crown outfitters store. I bought an ice ax, new trekking post tips when mine broke, and also a new inflatable sleep pad. The foam pad on its own had been making some very uncomfortable nights and knew it would be colder in the mountains. I returned to the general store to lunch and greeted many hikers that I had not seen in months. I finished weaving the second pair of socks too!

The second pair of socks, made with the thread I bought in Big Bear.

The rest of the day was simply relaxing. I fixed a rip in the long Johns of Magic, I called my mother, I kept the huge multitude of hikers who congregate here. At dinner time, Airbender and Big Bill attacked candles in fried pickles and sang a happy birthday.

We could not light the candles, and the heat of the pickles melted the wax. It didn’t matter.

I felt very grateful to be here.

Day 58: Clown car representatives

The pancake breakfast was so pleasant that I had it again. I met Sister Blister, another Trek blogger, while we ate and compared experiences. I jumped on the ferry then to Grumpy’s to collect my can and microspikes. The trip there was such a full hiker called hardcore and ended up riding in the trunk.

However, it makes some quite funny selfies. Integers Lotta hikers in this little car.

I replaced my Trekking post tips after returning and tried to pack all my food on my bear can. Not everything fit, so I had to give some meals of hikers. Then I shower, I washed my clothes, MacGyvered an accessory point of the Polaina on Airbender’s shoes, and planned the next section with my friends.

People began to drink when night fell and the atmosphere became more silly. I painted my nails (bad), I sang and joked. However, I was not awake too late, I wanted to leave quite early to be able to walk towards the bridge with the swallows.

The Kennedy Meadows cat lives a good life, although it is too willing to steal people’s food.
