CDT Joy: Entering Wyoming – The Trek

50: 12.0 miles

Outstanding: drive back to the way. Mack’s Inn Service Station. Stream Sieta.

It was wonderful to wake up in a real bed. I did some stretching lying on the bed and then headed to the kitchen to take my redbull energy drink and took more time to catch up with the new GSP puppy twigs. I took another shower, I packed my bag and drove back to continue from Bozeman.

Midnight, Early Bird, and stopped to have coffee when leaving the city and obtained coffee with caramel milk with a lemon blueberry bun and got a raspberry cookie bar to pack for the walk today.

We arrived at Mack’s Inn around 11 am and said goodbye to Early Bird and his puppy and then stopped at the service station. I obtained a cookie ice cream sandwich (of course!) And I ate it before starting the road, it leaves the city. I can say that I have increased weight in recent days with all the food I’ve been eating, and starting the walk today I felt a bit slow.

Early Bird and Twig. Thank you very much for letting me stay with you!

About 6 miles of the day, we stopped in a stream for lunch, since this would be the last source of water that flows to our camp tomorrow in Yellowstone. Midnight and I found some shadow and took a nap in the afternoon. Approximately an hour later, other friends on the path joined us: pickles, fracture, trip and snacks. We were vortex for the cold current and since we only had a few more miles for the day, we hung there for more than 3 hours!

After our long rest, the clouds rolled to make a great temperature walking along the dirt road. It rained for several minutes, but quickly turned to a pinch and evaporated as fast as precipitation fell. He cooled and we could see skies clear in front of us. About 2 miles later, an unmarked cross led us to a path that climbed a little on the brush covered with weeds and where we planned to camp for the night near Latham Spring.

The spring pipe did not flow, but there was a metal tank that had water that leaked for dinner. In Winco I could find Bin TSP bulk (textured soy protein) and peanut, so I made a path that Pad Thai with those ingredients along with ramen and peanut butter. For the desert I had peanut butter balls covered with chocolate, also from the bulk section, which melted during the heat of the day and resolved at dinner to a giant globe.

View at sunset from the camp

After dinner, I hung my food and spent time watching the sunset and daily on my day. Due to the storm before, the clouds were red and pink vibrant. Today was also my first day trying the Cotopaxi Sling bag that I bought at the field store instead of my LITEAF kidneys. In general, I love the largest size, I discovered how my belt for my waist to bounce less, and I am happy with the purchase.

Day 51: 15.4 Miles

The highlight: Wyoming Border! Entering Yellowstone National Park.

Today was the last thing I’ve slept on the path. I woke up renewed and did not pure to leave until almost 8 am the path was cruise today and thousands was fast. Before I realized, I had entered the limit of the National Park!

Yellowstone NP Limit

I took a lunch break next to the edge of Wyoming and Montana two miles below on the path and enjoyed cheese and inrustible sandwich with a protein shake.

I arrived at the camp at Summit Lake at 3 pm and camped among some trees and took a short nap. Then, I joined the friends of the path to swim in the afternoon in the lake and coined before eating an early dinner at 5 pm

In the camp, my left knee was a bit tender under the kneecap and felt a strong shot pain in the knee when I spread my leg completely while standing. Today, while I walked, I noticed that something was not perfect with my march and my knee, but I walked without pain and even forgot it in the afternoon.

I planned to watch a movie in my store, but I finished asleep at 6:30 pm and fell asleep throughout the night.

Day 52: 14.0 Miles

The highlight: Old Faithful

I heard the hikers start moving and pack right after 5 am. I was still dark outside, so I was hot in my sleeping bag to a quarter to six. It was still the first of my group outside the camp for the morning, since they all enjoyed coffee and breakfast while walking and dranking my night oatmeal.

Today I felt sad. I cannot point out what makes me feel this way, especially, since today is a great day in the National Park with more access to food and a family refueling box.

Part of my feeling could be related to my left knee. Yesterday and during the night it was painful to complete my leg and the pain chopped in my lower left kneecap. I am mentally spiral again on whether this can become an injury and what could mean for my walk.

I took my excursion time this morning being aware of not changing my march. On the way to Old Faithful, I walked through the upper geyser basin. It was great to see the clouds of steam from multiple spells in the distance and then observe some of them closely from the way. I arrived at the clinic around 10 am to collect my refueling box and classify my team. I have new shoes, socks, sports bra and a package lining along with new dressing articles and some snacks.

View from the upper geyser basin

After solving the box, I went to Old Faithful Inn and I had the lunch buffet that began at 11:30. After lunch, I found a seat on the second floor to load electronics and took a shower around the hall. I investigated the knee, I found friends and family, put my knee and took some time to relax in a bank and see the old faithful from the balcony of La Posada.

Then, the group went to the general store to collect some last -minute items and then to the restaurant at the Snow Hotel. I ate a cheese hamburger and french fries with chili cheese and enjoyed a cardboard of wine that I packed in the general store.

Around 6 pm, we return to the path. There was a great visible storm of old faithful Guiser and headed towards us. We did a Bushwhack on the path instead of going back to the main road and the red line and then we walked up before leaving and reaching the camp a few miles later. We camped and settled between the rainfall and hung my bear bag before calling it one night around 8 pm
