Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s U23 team achieved a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Kalighat in their Calcutta Football League (CFL) contract in Kalyani on Tuesday.
MBSG started a flying start, with the 21-year-old Pasang Tamang found only three minutes in the game the back of the net and gave his side an early lead.
Kalighhat, however, reacted with determination and Surajit Halder leveled the score in the 18th minute, causing both teams to compete for control.
The second half saw the continuous intensity from both sides. It was Karan Rai who eventually broke the impasse in the 65th minute and the decisive goal scored that all three points for Mohun Bagan SG.
With this victory, MBSG climbed to third place in the rankings with 10 points from five games, while Kalighat went to ninth place.
In the next match, Mohun Bagan Hoorns locks with arch-rival East bengal on July 19.
In the other CFL match of the day, measuring measurements won 2-1 against Calcutta Customs.
