Champions League 2025-26: Atletico Madrid beats PSV 3-2; Greenwood propels Marseille to a 3-2 victory

Atletico Madrid came from behind to beat PSV Eindhoven 3-2 on Tuesday and move to seventh in the Champions League rankings, all but ensuring progression to the knockout stages.

Julian Alvarez, David Hancko and Alexander Sorloth all took advantage of sloppy defending from their Dutch hosts and scored after PSV had taken an early lead through Guus Til.

The Spaniards had to hold on desperately in the closing stages as PSV came back when Ricardo Pepe pulled a goal back five minutes from time.

It ensured a grandstand finish with a noisy crowd cheering on the home team, but despite several chances, PSV could not enforce a dramatic late draw.

Marseille beats Union Saint-Gilloise

Mason Greenwood scored twice as Olympique de Marseille came from behind to claim a 3-2 Champions League victory over hosts Union Saint-Gilloise on Tuesday, significantly boosting their chances of reaching the knockout rounds.

With the victory, Marseille rises to nine points from six games and to sixteenth place in the rankings. Union are 25th and outside the knockout places with six points, also from six games.

Union took the lead within five minutes when Anan Khalaili picked up the ball on the edge of the penalty area, cut inside and drilled a low shot at the near post.

Marseille were level as Igor Paixao reacted quickest to the loose ball when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s shot was only parried by goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen.

Greenwood’s first goal put the visiting side ahead as he linked well with Aubameyang and fired into the net from 12 yards, before adding a second goal when he fired past Scherpen.

Union reduced the deficit to one goal when Khalaili grabbed his second and twice thought it was an equalizer but was fractionally offside on both occasions.
