Champions League 2025-26: Haaland and Foden shine as Manchester City beat Borussia Dortmund; Galatasaray passes Ajax

Erling Haaland returned to haunt Borussia Dortmund with a clinical finish against his former team, while Phil Foden bagged a brilliant brace as Manchester City cruised to a 4-1 win in the Champions League on Wednesday to climb to fourth in the table.

Pep Guardiola’s men have 10 points after four of eight games in the league phase, while Dortmund have dropped to fourteenth place with seven points.

City were dominant from the start and England international Foden opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when he collected a pass from Tijjani Reijnders and finished with a sharp left-foot strike from just outside the penalty area and past goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

Haaland, who has scored 27 goals in 17 appearances for club and country, doubled the lead seven minutes later, finishing coolly from the center of the box after a blistering run and an assist from Jeremy Doku. Foden completed his double in the 57th minute in almost identical fashion to his first, holding on to a pass from Reijnders before deflecting a curling shot just inside the far post.

Waldemar Anton pulled one back for the Bundesliga club from a free-kick in the 72nd minute, much to the delight of the famous ‘yellow wall’ of traveling Dortmund supporters, but Rayan Cherki put the match well out of reach with an injury-time goal.

Osimhen’s hat-trick is Galatasaray’s strength

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen scored a hat-trick in the second half to secure a comfortable 3-0 away win over hapless Ajax Amsterdam.

Two of the three goals came from the penalty spot as the Nigeria international took his league tally to six this season, with the Turkish club moving from 16th to ninth in the standings with nine points from four games.

Ajax, which has become European champion four times, remains winless at the bottom of the 36-team rankings.

Osimhen stooped to head in Leroy Sane’s cross in the 59th minute to open the scoring and then tucked away a penalty in the 66th minute after a clumsy handball from defender Youri Baas.

Ajax gave away a second penalty when Gerald Alders, on his European debut, accidentally handled the ball in the penalty area while trying to block a shot, with Osimhen slamming home the resulting penalty in the 78th minute.
