Champions League 2025-26: Osimhen scores from the place while Galatasaray beats Liverpool; Marseille crushes Ajax


Victor Osimhen scored an early penalty when Galatasaray defeated an error-sensitive Liverpool, who lost goalkeeper Alisson and striker Hugo Ekitike of injury, 1-0 in a rough Champions League collision in Istanbul on Tuesday.

The masked Nigerian striker shot the ball past a diving Alisson when he performed in the 16th minute after Baris Alper Yilmaz went down after he was swept by Dominik Szoboszlai.

Liverpool made three changes to the line -up that suffered a first competition defeat of the season through Crystal Palace during the weekend, with Mohamed Salah on the bank, together with record signing by Alexander Isak.

Both emerged in the 62nd minute when Liverpool made a triple replacement, where Salah Starter Jeremie Frimpong replaced on the right wing, after Alisson was injured and was replaced by Giorgi Mhaldashvili in the 56th.

Ekitike was injured in the starting arrangement on his return from a domestic suspension in the 68th on a bruising evening for the visitor, who had his chances but looked alarmingly vulnerable in defense.

Marseille crushes Ajax 4-0

Igor Paixao’s Early Double and Goals from Mason Greenwood and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have assured Olympique de Marseille a 4-0 win over Ajax Amsterdam at home.

The Brazilian winger, who had to find the net for Marseille, needed six minutes to open his account before he doubled his count six minutes later.

Greenwood added a third before the rest and Aubameyang turned the score in the second half and benefited from the Paixao assist.

Marseille’s first victory of the Champions League Since October 2022 it gave its first points of the campaign after the opening 2-1 loss in Real Madrid mid-September, while Ajax suffered a second defeat after the start with a 2-0 loss for Second Milan.
