Champions League: Why did Real Madrid’s Mbappé miss training ahead of the Manchester City match?

Real Madrid’s French superstar Kylian Mbappé did not train with his teammates on Tuesday on the eve of his team’s most important Champions League match against Manchester City.

The forward broke a finger in the defeat to Celta Vigo in La Liga on Sunday, and when asked to do so AFPMadrid said his absence from training was due to that injury, but also to other discomforts he suffered during that match.

If Mbappe cannot play against City on Wednesday it would be a major blow to coach Xabi Alonso, with Spanish media reporting that a defeat would lead to his dismissal.

The 26-year-old forward has scored 25 goals in 21 games in all competitions this season and has been Madrid’s most important player.
