Chan 2024 – Uganda thrashes Guinea; South Africa keeps Algeria a draw


Co-host Uganda scored in every half to beat Guinea 3-0 in Kampala to keep his hope alive to get ahead in the African Nations Championship (Chan) 2024.

The cranes, who lost their tournament opener with the same margin for Algeria, were in danger to early elimination.

But Reagan Mpande put it in the lead for half an hour by going home a right cross of Joel Sserunjogi to illuminate the pressure.

Ugandan skipper Allan Okello, who played the leading role in the game, doubled the lead in the 62nd minute when he converted a penalty after he was polluted.

Replacement of Ivan Ahimbisibwe has fired a last-gasp-third goal to give the hosts all three points.

South Africa marked his return to the championship after 11 years when Algeria held a 1-1 draw in the early group C match.

The desert foxes wanted to follow their solid start of the tournament when Abdennour Belhocini placed them for half an hour before the half hour.

The 28-year-old CS Constantine-Vleugel player, who plays his third international, hit a separate ball outside the box to drive a shot with left home along the Bafana keeper.

But South Africa, even though it was the inferior of the two parties, showed tenacity by pressing hard to get the equalizer in the peace of the break.

Veteran -striker Thabiso Kutumela benefited from a combination of midfield to level the scores and give Bafana Bafana their first point in the tournament.

Algeria maintained the group C -lead with four points from two games.
