Chelsea boss Rosenior excited for Champions League match against PSG and Luis Enrique

Liam Rosenior said he is looking forward to Chelsea’s Champions League last-16 match against holders Paris Saint-Germain after Friday’s draw linked the teams.

Rosenior said he has admired the French champion after watching him closely during his time in charge in Strasbourg.

The chance to meet PSG coach Luis Enrique and his squad is one of the reasons Rosenior entered management.

Chelsea travel to Paris for the first leg in March and host PSG at Stamford Bridge a week later.

«So excited. PSG are a fantastic team. I have experience playing against them in France. I have always admired them. Luis Enrique has done a fantastic job,» Rosenior told reporters on Friday.

“These are the matches you live for, the matches you come to football for.

«It will be a great draw. But before that we still have three games that I have to concentrate on.»

Chelsea have faced PSG nine times previously, winning 3-0 in the most recent meeting in the Club World Cup final in July.

The west London side’s victory in New Jersey came about thanks to Rosenior’s predecessor, Enzo Maresca, who left in January, paving the way for the 41-year-old to move to Chelsea from Ligue 1.

Rosenior faced PSG three times during his time in Strasbourg, winning once, drawing once and losing once.

For now, Rosenior is also focusing on the challenge of taking on Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Chelsea travel to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday to avenge their League Cup semi-final loss to the Gunners earlier this season.

The Blues are fifth in the table and are looking to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

«I don’t rate one game as more difficult than another. There are different tactical things you can work on,» Rosenior said.

«I’m very happy with the group and the start we’ve made. We won eight out of twelve and that should be 10 out of twelve. That’s not bad.»

«This club should be playing in the Champions League, this club is a Champions League club. When I took over we were eighth. We are now in the race.»

Rosenior also backed Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana after he was racially abused on social media following his red card in the draw against Burnley last weekend edc4.

«It was a tough day for Wes, firstly because of what happened in the game and the racist abuse he received online,» he said.

«It affects you in ways that shouldn’t exist. It’s something we have to try to eradicate from life and football. He is strong and has trained this week.»
