Chelsea confirms signing of Dutch International Jorrel Hato from Ajax

Premier League side Chelsea confirmed on Sunday the signing of Dutch International Jorrel Hato from Ajax.

The winner of the Club World Cup bound the 19-year-old on a contract until 2032 for a reported reimbursement of 35.5 million pounds.

«I am very excited, I am so happy to be here,» Hato said. «I thought a lot about my future and wanted to take the next step in my career. Chelsea is the best place for me to do that, so I am very happy,» Hato told the club website.

Hato started his football trip with local sidecar Rotterdam before he came to Ajax’s youth arrangement. The defender made his Ajax debut at the age of 16 in 2022 and his international debut at the age of 17 and so far collected six caps. He also led the U21 Dutch side in his run to the European Semi -Final Championship.

Hato will act as cover for left back Marc Cucurella, but can also throw in the left-center background role if necessary. The deal takes the expenditure of Chelsea in this window beyond 250 million pounds.
