Coach Liam Rosenior believes Chelsea already have the tools to deliver victories as they prepare to host Arsenal in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final on Wednesday in their second game in charge.
Rosenior was appointed Chelsea coach on Tuesday and the five-match winless run ended with a 5-1 FA Cup win over Charlton on Saturday. The match against Arsenal will be his first as a coach against a colleague from the Premier League.
«I would like to be here for six years or more. But to do that, you have to start winning. So my focus is to have ideas about what the team should look like in one or two years,» Rosenior told reporters on Monday.
«But I already have the resources here to win. The boys trained very, very well today. We will make a decision about the team in the coming days and attack the match.»
The 41-year-old said Chelsea had been preparing for the clash with Arsenal since the moment he took charge.
«We have been working on Arsenal tactically since I joined the club. I have watched all their matches, analyzed every aspect of their game, including set play, which they are very good at,» he added.
ARSENAL WILL NOT USE PIECE FC, SAYS ROSENIOR
However, Rosenior said Premier League leaders Arsenal’s threats went far beyond just set pieces.
«I don’t know who they call Set Piece FC. That’s certainly not me. They are a team that is very good without the ball. They have a very, very clear idea of the way they want to play with the ball,» he said.
«Plus they are very well organized and deliver good set plays. That’s what you want to be if you want to be successful.»
The coach said he didn’t feel any added pressure heading into a big game so early in his job.
«I’m happy with the process we’re working in as a staff and what the players are working on. I don’t make it bigger than the fact that it’s the next game and we have to win, and that’s how I see it,» he said.
