Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca praised Cole Palmer’s ability to enter into the opportunity after the English attacking midfielder was named Club World Cup player of the tournament after their impressive 3-0 win over Paris St Germain in Sunday’s final.
«These are the matches that we expect Cole Palmer to appear, and again, he showed what he was made of,» Maresca told a press conference after Palmer scored twice and gave an assist to Joao Pedro in their title -winning performance against the winners of the Champions League.
Maresca revealed that his tactical master plan had worked in perfection, in which Chelsea PSG Pushed High and immediately operated direct plays behind the defense of their rivals.

«The idea was go man-to-man, because if you leave spaces to PSG, they will kill you, so we tried to be very aggressive and they were stifling early and that intensity was crucial in the first 10 minutes because of the burning heat, those were really difficult circumstances to play as the game progressed,» Maresca explained.
The Italian coach emphasized how his team successfully focused the vulnerable flank of PSG and added: «We were very successful with exploring the left side of their defense, things worked perfectly for us because of the efforts the players made.»
Maresca praised his players for the perfect use of the game plan he had in mind, with their approach with a high intensity that turned out to be decisive in the sizzling New Jersey circumstances and said that he is delighted to win a clubworld cup that he thinks will be seen much different in the future.
«I feel that this competition (the club of the club) will be just as important as or even more important than the Champions League,» said Maresca.
«I was lucky to be part of a coaching staff (in Manchester City) who won the Champions League three years ago, but this competition (the club world cup) has the best clubs in the world. That is why we appreciate it as much as the Champions League, or perhaps even more. For us it was a great triumph.
