Raúl Jiménez scored in the 50th minute from an assist of 16-year-old Gilberto Mora and Mexico on Wednesday evening to his 12th Concacaf Gold Cup final with a 1-0 win over Honduras.
El TRI went ahead to play the United States in the last Sunday evening in Houston for the eighth meeting in the title match between the two countries with Mexico that has a 5-2 lead. Mexico has won nine golden cups, the US Seven and Canada One.
Mexico broke early in the second half on a piece started by Alexis Vega with a pass to Mora near the top of the box. Mora pushed a pass to Jiménez, who defeated Edrick Menjívar with a shot with the right foot for his 42nd international career.
No. 17 Ranked Mexico seemed to add that lead a few minutes later when Edson Álvarez tapped in a goal of a set, but that was canceled when the video review ruled that he was offside.
But El Tri managed to hold on that lead, because Honduras could not generate equalizer in the 75th -ranking Honduras.
«We had a deserved victory,» said coach Javier Aguirre via an interpreter.
Honduras reached this stage for the first time since 2013, despite losing the opener of the tournament 6-0 to Canada. The Hondurans have not made the final since the inaugural tournament in 1991 when they lost to the US in penalties
Mexico has not allowed a goal in 383 minutes and goalkeeper Luis Malagón had to save only one in the last three games – an easy stop on the shot of Dixon Ramírez from outside the box late in the first half.
El Tri’s had two good chances late in the first half. Johan Vásquez’s shot deeply deflected in the box of the Honduran defender Denil Maldonado and right in the hands of keeper Menjívar.
Menjívar then made a sharp salvation against Marcel Ruíz in the 42nd minute and Julián Martínez cleared the rebound out of the danger.

There was a chippy moment in the 11th minute when a ball was played in the Mexico bank area. Romell Quioto tried to aggressively to get the ball for Honduras and the Mexican reserve Guillermo Ochoa took exception, which led to players in both teams being heated and a yellow card for Ochoa.
