A series of Premier League setbacks has left Liverpool manager Arne Slot disheartened as his players have failed to meet the club’s high standards in what he described as his most challenging season yet.
The champions have won just one of their last seven Premier League games, missing out on victory due to late goals from Fulham and Manchester City. Sixth-placed Liverpool are 17 points behind leaders Arsenal.
«A draw feels like a loss at this club. That is certainly not easy for players, because they know what Liverpool’s standards mean, and we are currently not performing to Liverpool’s standards and they feel that disappointment,» Slot told reporters on Tuesday.

«Every game it feels like we’re going to win it, but that doesn’t happen… (the players) feel like they can compete in terms of performance with any other team in any league in the world. But the reality is we’re not performing to Liverpool’s standards.»
When asked whether this was the toughest season he has experienced, Slot agreed.
«That’s fair. In all the other seasons I’ve experienced there have been only positives. Lihat juga pdf view. I don’t think I’ve ever lost two games in a row,» said Slot, who led Liverpool to the Premier League title last season.
«For me, this season is an exception and that also applies to the players. They are not used to losing a lot or having a lot of draws. I am not used to that either.»
Slot said he wondered to what extent Liverpool’s problems were down to bad luck.
«The number of times we conceded late goals in extra time is much more than normal. Is it bad luck or is it our fault? I tried a lot of different things, I made defensive changes and the ball went in,» said the Dutchman.
Slot said Wednesday’s visit to Sunderland, the only Premier League team unbeaten this season, would be another big test.
“They have already played against City and Arsenal at home, so that tells you how good a season they are having and how strong they are at home,” said Slot.
“There is still a possibility that we can do something special this season as well.”
