Walk on the CDT Sobo Lincoln to Helena
Trail Town!
Lincoln was a great city of trails! The owner of a bar allows hikers to camp behind his building in a perfectly flat green meadow. After configuring our tents there, we walked through the city with our rain team on that hot and sunny afternoon, to reach the free showers. It is not our most glamorous moment. But then we drink a drink, a bag full of cucumbers of snacks and hummus in a bank behind the laundry. Definitely a glamorous moment from a perspective through hikers!
We make sure to eat a lot of tasty food among all our tasks (laundry, charge electronics, refueling, communication with friends and family, blogged, plan the next section) and everywhere where we met. While returning to our tents, bellies full of good greasy pizza, I could not help talking about flashing lights, buildings, the wood carving festival …! «Yes, I guess it’s very American,» Bugs smiled.
The hitch back to the path was easy: we danced and smiled next to the road with the sign of «hiker to follow» that a dear friend of mine had written on the ground sheet of my home tent at home. Almost immediately, we received the attention of a parked driver. During the trip, we not only learned how Lincoln moved for love, but also had a lot to say about the local population of mountain lions. I tried not to listen too much to all its different anecdotes. I am fine with the bears now, but the mountain lions scare me.
Beautiful views of Ridgeline in East Montana
Is about to get painful
Bugs and I were ready to crush Miles while we started walking through the beautiful ridges that allowed majestic views in eastern Montana.
But soon, I became slower. My heel had already been bothering me in the last section, now the pain was becoming unbearable! After 19 miles to limp slowly and delays in the tears, I ran into a road. Bugs jumped from the shadows on the other side of the road, wearing worried.
«Are you OK?»
«No, at all. I may need to camp here.»
Little by little, we head to a spring. I was shudding with each step, leaning on my trap posts and limbing strongly. In spring, we met a lovely hiker that we have last seen in East Glacier. He and Bugs were talking, but I sat on a stone holding my foot, trying not to start crying. I took off my shoe and numbness of the constant hiking pressure began to disappear. Now the heel throiled with intense pain, hot to the touch, although he could barely touch it. The others asked me something, but I couldn’t understand or speak, I simply shook my head and bit my lip. They understood.
Desperate Times – Desperate Measures
It took me some time to breathe for pain and ask Bugs Bunny if I could bring me some water to cool my foot. Then I fished the small nail scissors of my backpack and began cutting the heel of my shoe.
«This is the stupid thing I could do here. Or bright.» I thought for myself. After all, my shoes were probably my most crucial piece of team. But I have renounced so much to be here, I was not going to let this pain stop me.
It turned out, it was the genius movement! So much so, I cut my safe shoe shortly after. Of course, I had to find a special cord technique to keep everything in place. Of course, everything was a bit scolding and unstable later, which was difficult for my ankles. Of course, a lot of land, pine needles and small stones got into my shoes now. But I could walk the next morning and continue since then.

The edited version of my trails of trails: cut heels and ingenious cords to keep everything in place.
Shortcuts and walks along the way
From then on, Bugs Bunny unleashed his alternative superpower – finding – constantly looking for shortcuts. With my still inflamed heel, we stumble along dirt roads, trying to avoid as much elevation as possible, since you am incentive, it hurts especially badly.

Nice flowers of the road to lift the mood.
So we headed to the ranch, apparently, an alpaca ranch, and enjoy our first time Magic Treat on his porch with fresh sandwiches and soft drinks.
Our unmarked alternatives lead us to low and dry valleys, where we finally run out of water. It was not after passing several bones and cattle skeletons that we finally found a drip.

Is there water here? Bugs is checking the maps with some bones
Tired of unexpected complications, we finally arrive at Helena Fir our first well deserved zero.

Elegant town cafos and hey, look! We made a new friend!
