Crystal Palace fights the relegation of the League of the Europe, transfers prior to Community Shield collision against Liverpool

Crystal Palace goes to Sunday’s community shield against Liverpool with a healthcare list, ranging from injuries and matte transfer activities to the pending profession against UEFA’s decision to relegate them from the Europa League.

Manager Oliver Glasner led Palace to a new height in May when it won his first major trophy and defeated Manchester City to reach the FA Cup. But joy at the first performance of the South London side in the community shield has been filled in by his problems outside the field.

Last month, Palace was fell to the third conference of UEFA in an alleged multi-club ownership breach because John Textor, president of Olympique Lyonnais Majority Owner Eagle Football Group, also had a controlling interest in Palace.

Eagle sold his interest in Palace last month and the English club appealed against the relegation at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), with the hearing for this month.

«If you have to play in the Conference League, it feels like we’re punished,» Glasner told reporters on Friday. «We hope that this judgment will take us back to the Europa League because, as I said, we have done nothing wrong.»

To add the worries of Glasner prior to Sunday’s collision in Wembley, striker Eddie Nketiah is eight weeks out after an injury during the preseason and midfielder Cheick Doucoure will not return for two months.

«We also had injuries to (Matheus) Franca and (Caleb) KPorha. So we have a shortage of numbers. If we want to be competitive, we have to add players with good quality,» Glasner added.

‘Passive’ transfer window

But Palace has not been active enough to compensate for the figures it needs for his first season with a UEFA competition since the Intertoto Cup 1998, the manager said.

«We have been pretty passive in the transfer window. We have to add a few players to be ready for all matches,» he said. «In a situation like this, we certainly need two more players, one at the back and one in the attack.»

Ebereechi Eze, who scored the FA Cup winner, is also linked to a move.

«He will definitely play on Sunday,» said Glasner.

The coach said his players looked forward to hiring the Premier League champion Liverpool, regardless of the problems. «Liverpool (are) a top team and it is much better than playing friendly games. It is an opportunity to win a trophy and the chance to compete with the champions. We want to show our personality again,» he added.
