August 17 – Trail of the blue mountainsNe oregon
Returning to the path
My legs have already received a beating. I guess I should wear pants.
The morning was cloudy, without rain. After a delicious breakfast in the Hotel meadowWe returned to Lake Strawberry. I headed 2 weeks along the way, so I didn’t feel like running. When looking at the map, I saw that we could take the trail of the slide connector back to the BMT. It was a little longer with more elevation gain, but it would mean that yesterday’s walk would not be repeated outside the desert.
I was glad for that decision. It is a good path. There is not much review and showing signs of regular use, although we did not see anyone along the way. Mary walked with me until we reached the BMT, then we had snacks and great goodbye. We have had farewell moments like this when the path is visible during a mile more or less, which makes them become a lot and greet. That insurance was not the case today. He took both 20 steps in our respective directions and then Poof, that was all. See you in the big one!
It was a good walk up and climbed 3,000 feet to Big Riner Junction. By then the sun was out and I had a good lunch in the sun, drying my feet that were wet from the plants.

It is definitely not maintained! Otherwise, a good rolling trace inside and outside some basins.

Once I left the Big Riner Junction, he returned to the review. The path was difficult to continue in some places, requiring some search for routes. The fires around here were quite complete, without leaving much on the path of green trees. So it was a complete exhibition all day, although the sun did not feel too strong. It had a lot of water since the springs marked on the map flowed very well. In general, it was a good day of hiking.
The problem came when it was time to find a place to camp. Or the ground was too steep or covered with my new nemesis, Ceanothus. Or both. So, when I saw a decent place, I grabbed it. I was just outside Strawberry Mountain Wilderness, which means that my first of the 7 desert areas was complete. Thank you, Strawberry Mountain! At this point, the entire area of nature had walked from west to east.
While I installed, I could see a crazy storm in the mountains, to the south, with large rays. However, I was lucky and it didn’t rain until after dusk, when it rained for a couple of hours. And without lightning, go! I woke me a large package of coyotes howling in the morning woods, quite close.

Camping on the outskirts of the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness.
