Day 52 Emergency Room of Lone Pine

«And to get what you want, just for a moment,
These are dangerous forests ..
That goes the moment ..
However, do not forget it for a moment.
Just remembering that you had a ‘and’ when you returned to ‘o’,
Makes the ‘or’ more than before.
Now I understand …
And it’s time To leave the forest. «
The baker’s wife from the forest by Stephen Sondheim

While I walked «Against the grain», I decided to tell the people I found during the walk 5 mike of my camp to Cottonwood Pass, which is where my path separated from the PCT. Normally, I would only see a handful of people along the way, since we are in the same direction and similar speed. But today, I would see all those people. It turned out that I saw 45 people. So, you are not really alone on the road.

I arrived at Pine Lonely around 15:15. They left me at their clinic. The receptionist said they had no urgent care, but that she offered to take me to the emergency room through the street, since my foot was injured. Knowing that I had walked 30 miles after hurting my foot, I walked down the street to the emergency room.

In the hospital, everything happened very fast. At 16:03, I had been seen by a nurse, X -ray technology, and took me 4 X -rays.

Finally I saw the doctor around 4:30 p.m. He said there is no rest, but that the puncture of the ice ax was infected. Since punctures are more susceptible to infection, I wanted to make sure it did not progress to sepsis. Then he prescribed oral and typical antibiotics to use for a week. He should also keep the area clean for that time.

So I found a place to stay at Lone Pine and Cené. I checked public transport and discovered that I could get home in 10 1/2 hours through 3 buses. Being at home seemed more pleasant for recovering than time at a hotel. So I went to the grocery store, I bought food for the trip, and ice cream for the night, of course, and made my plans to return home.

Returning to the theme «Into the Woods», I definitely consider the time of ice ax as a «and» not as a «or». I had to examine being forced to get out of the path, possibly throughout the year. I reached an agreement with that. I could have a feeling of achievement for what I have done. Walking 800 miles and being in the forest for 50 days is beyond what most people can imagine. But rethinking the walk and really letting any need to get to Canada go, it also allows me to really appreciate what I was seeing and experiencing every day on the walk. Without hurting my foot, I would never have seen my last camp, which is one of the most pleasant few in which I have camped. Therefore, there were unexpected positive aspects as a result of what was sent as a negative moment. And the X -ray results that do not show broken bone means that I can get these achievements and still return to the road. Definitely a «y».
