Yesterday was a difficult day. I think I slept worse than I thought about the storm, and I was tired all day. Have Muir Hut was easy enough, but the long job in the Aguanieve really took it away from me. I forced my body to go 22 miles to get a little closer to Selden Pass. I am a ramen bomb for dinner. I really don’t like ramen bombs, but I needed carbohydrates and calories. I was out like a rock before 9 pm.
Today I am still 3 miles from Selden Pass, but I feel infinitely better. I did not start until almost 6:30 am, so I am forced to hit snow again, although hopefully less. I have Falls pain and bruises yesterday, but nothing very bad. Today I feel pretty good when doing my third consecutive day of more than 22 miles, and if I will do well, I will do my room and I will arrive at Mammoth tomorrow. I think that most PCT hikers will agree, that 22 miles in the mountains are a lot, much more difficult than the 28 -mile days I could do in the desert. I’m looking forward to a few days off at Mammoth. I will walk again, but with a light package and shorter miles. It should be a fantastic active recovery complemented by massive food quantities.
I was excited for a moment, because my watch told me that it was only about 800 vertical feet below the highest point of the day. Unfortunately, now I’m descending, so I have to recover all those vertical feet shortly. Okay, the path is beautiful, most hikers are walking behind me, and I am enjoying every step.
