- Cornelius Creek shelter (767.5) to Petites Gap (777.5)
- 2759 feet rise, 2014 feet
Jaws came out the summer I made my attempt from 1975 through the walk. I saw him with some young people who met that they were friends with another hiker. Like everyone else, I remembered the line, «you will need a larger ship.»
When I was a child, we did not go to the cinema since my single -parent mother had to concentrate on food, shelter and medical invoices. She did a good job and I am proud of her effort. But we often needed a bigger boat. Today, the historian and I discovered that our biggest boat needed new shoes and more food.
Slam submerged on the path
The day began well enough. It rests more than yesterday, but we needed to hit some miles to maintain our replenishment. The historian felt better, so we were eager to move on.
After approximately a fast walking mile, I found myself face down on the path. I hit so much that I felt someone had hit me. I was totally surprised.
Something ashamed, I stayed there for a few seconds trying to find out if I was injured. We were both patrolmen and professional corridors in the 1980s and we are still Nordic. I have had my fair part of falls. It is quite rare for me not to know that I am falling.
Still baffled for being mouth of the earth, I decide that I am fine, but I am totally unable not to go to undress of my whole team.
I received the help capable of the relieved historian. After dirtying me, we both saw that the fingers of my 2 -day shoes were delaminating. It is not surprising that I have fallen. The trail shoes to flutter have taken better hikers than me.
Slam immersed himself again
Armed with the knowledge that my fingers of my feet were fluttering, I kept walking but more carefully to the surface. The historian said he was hungry, so we stopped and added 2 protein bars to his breakfast not very distant from chia and protein drink.
We left again, this time with the hungry historian at the head. The surface of the path was quite easy, so we moved quickly for us.
Suddenly, I’m falling again. Cursing like a drunk sailor, I land, face down, smells in the middle of the path again. It is not funny. But fun. My laugh was cushioned by the earth.
We have to get a bigger boat. These shoes are not cut for this hiking.
I’m hungry
After disassembling, raising and reassembling my kit, we start again. This time, I am in the lead. I guess it will be easier for the historian to get up again.
On the path, we go to our fast pace.
«I’m hungry». Complaints the historian.
Ok, I can fix that. I am a guardian of the sandwiches, so we stop and I am fishing another hundreds of calories more of snacks. You must have about 1500 calories and are not even 11 in the morning.
We have to get a bigger boat.
Great at the reference points
We continue. The path has had a long uphill, but not too steep and the surface has been relatively benign.
Today two notable reference points are on the board: the orb and the guillotine.
We do it ascend to the orb and take some mandatory shots. We continue.
Soon, large rocks appear and the centerpiece of the day is near. In fact, we missed Fat Mans Squeise because we intended to overcome the rocks that we never thought about going through them. We were not going to make that mistake today.
Before I took some photos, then I went through while the historian took photos from behind. Then, I posed and took a video of him passing.
When he went down, I thought: «Mi, he looks thin.»
He approached and said: «I’m hungry.»
We have to get a bigger boat.
Approaching at the end of the day
I had a videoconference with a voluntary group scheduled for the night. We were going to be able to recharge the next day, so I was anxious to find a bandwidth place for our camping place.
Luckily, others were in the parking lot of Petiets Gap Camping because there was a cell signal. I cooked the biggest dinner we stayed and added some additional calories of flax seeds and cream cheese powder.
The divided dinner, I gave the historian three quarters and ate the rest. I added another portion of Gorp rich in pumpkin seeds to your dinner. He satiated with his day of 6000 calories, lay down and went to sleep.
I joined my videoconference. When the moderator brought people online, he said: «Jane in New York, Susan of Spotsville, John de San Francisco and Anniversary, from …. to Tent.»
After finishing my videoconference, I went to bed in our store and thought how satisfactory it was. Large enough for a videoconference. Just good for both and a small team. The boat, however, we have to get a bigger boat.
