Day 6: Business or pleasure?

A perfect night in Breck

I had a great night in the hostel in Brekenridge. I could get everything I needed, I got a good dinner meal, I talked to some walkers, I had a video chat with my wife and children, then I limited it with a decent dream. I love city days.

In the morning, we had pancakes, sausages and fresh fruit. I could not have asked better taking into account next day. I caught the bus back to the path with a Nobo CDT walker called Semi. It is in the last stage of its triple crown. He gave me the bass at the climb he was about to do. More than 3600 feet of Brekenridge above and on the step towards Copper Mountain. I had been fearing a little given my altitude problems. Oh, how wrong I was nervous.

Time of climbing

I pledged down and slow. I wanted to keep my slow pace and my heart rate low as long as possible. The curious thing was that I had not considered that a hamburger for dinner and breakfast pancakes is basically rocket fuel. I moved to a good clip, breathed well and felt great! Things were sailing and then broke the tree line. The views I saw today left me speechless. I had to force myself and soak everything. It was surrounded by spikes and snow. There was a lake in the distance. Mountains and clouds per miles. This was an unforgettable moment. When I finally reached the highest point of the climb, I sat in a rock and looked for 30 minutes solid. A climb that had feared that it turned out to be an incredible moment on the road.

Are I going too fast?

On the way, I met the yearbook. He is a CSU student who makes the CT during the summer. We have to talk about rhythm and deadlines. It made me think: «Is this walk for business or pleasure?» And what I want to say with that is, am I here just to complete a list of objectives? Or am I here to try to feed that part of my soul that longs for these adventures and challenges? Are I going too fast to really harvest the benefits of the Colorado path? Currently, I decided on a mixture of both. I have a set of objectives and I intend to finish them. That said, I also feel so satisfied every day here. This has been the experience I have wanted to this point. However, my rhythm and my timeline cannot be ignored. Ultimately, I have decided that if the speed means that I stop having fun, I will stop walking. Currently, I’m having a lot of fun.

Anyway, back to the summary. The descent to Copper Mountain Resort was long, gradual and peaceful. I had my eyes along the way, but my brain was running through a slide presentation of the views I had just enjoyed. I love a good descent that allows me to throw things to the autopilot, I took a water break in a small current surrounded by wild flowers. Another peaceful moment in this necessary descent. Then, I went to some resort hikers who took some time to enjoy the beauty of the path.

A hot and unexpected roadway

Once I completed the descent, I found an unfortunate detour due to a closure of paths near Copper Mountain Resort. The diversion guided hikers to a community path through the complex and back to the CT/CDT. Everything was a paved road walk under the burning sun. I was planning to get a good Martini coffee at the Lodge resort, but I didn’t expect the sun and alcohol to mix well, so unfortunately I had to pass.

I arrived at a great camp between Jacque and Guller Creek. There was a great meadow surrounded by water that flows and flourishing flowers. Perfect. The place was associated with hikers, so dinner was very fun. Now I’m looking forward to a good night.

Pink, spine and sprout

Rose: The views. There is not much more to say. I’m still stunned by what Colorado has to offer.

Thorn: The detour through the complex. My Espresso Tinis dream faded through the sun.

BUD: I hope today has been just a snack with respect to the incredible landscape of Colorado. From what they have told me, I will not disappoint me in the next few days.
