Day 61 – Easy does

Last night I camped at the stock camp on the edge of Lake Dorothy. I did my camp tasks with my error network and murdered the five mosquitoes that followed me to my store when I finished. After that, I slept quite well. Well, with an exception. In a previous publication, I boasted the durability of my air mattress, compared to the very light and expensive that many hikers use. In the last two days, mine has developed a very slow leak. During the last nights, I woke up in the middle of the night, not a flat mattress, but to a soft mattress. I take off my mattress, I give it about six breaths, and it’s fine until the morning. It is not a horrible problem, and most likely an easy solution, where the difficult part is to find the leak. If I can’t find it in Kennedy Meadows North, I’m planning to take a zero in South Lake Tahoe, where I hope to have a bathtub that can use to isolate the hole.

Mosquitoes have been much better this morning. They are still close if I stop, but I don’t have aggressive diving bombers yesterday. I have my hand network by hand if things get worse.

The path has been much easier since the descent of Lake Dorothy Pass. Pretty Rolly, and not many rocks. My plan today is to go 16 miles and then camp at the end of a long climb. That will leave me a short walk of 5 to 6 miles in Kennedy Meadows north in the morning. I am planning to spend the night there and make the regular variety of hiker tasks, and I hope to find good food. That last part is the only thing that can send me to Hitchhiking to Walker. I need to eat some foods that contain a wide nutritional value.

There were three of us camped at the stock camp last night. A hiker had built a fire and was sitting in the smoke to keep mosquitoes away. I am not sure whether I knew who they were or not. All I could see was a body and a smoked mist. Gritty also camped there and took off almost at the same time and walked together one or two miles. She is from Tacoma, near home, so we talked about this and that on the road a little before I stopped to filter some water. I am in zero hurry today with short miles, so while mosquitoes cooperate, my breaks will be long and relaxing.

Oh, I arrived at the 100 mile brand this morning.

I arrived at my objective place at 2:30 in the afternoon I took a short nap, and I have been resting in my refugee wind store during the last hours. I lean more towards Walker tomorrow, but we’ll see what happens.
