Day 62: I really don’t want to stop smoking, I just have a parasite

*Caution, omits this blog post if you don’t like reading about gross bodily functions*

Our morning was slow. We went to a cafeteria to take something and food. I had some muffin from Canela de Nick and I was able to support half of my Bagel along with a little ice tea. I wrapped the rest, hoping to finish it soon.

The Water Gap’s output seemed steep on paper, but it was well qualified.

It took me about 5 hours to eat the rest of my bangel, and I also got the fruits gummies to go down. My symptoms were not going to disappear. While we were at a break, I looked for the symptoms of a few different common diseases in diseases: Norovirus, Giardia and Food poisoning. Both the symptoms of mine and Nick’s reflected exactly Giardia.

Shit.

The beginning of Giardia is 7-10+ days, and the symptoms can last up to a month if they are not treated with antibiotics. I took this news to Nick. He thought he would be fine without medications, but he needed something. We walked 8 miles, and everything I had to eat so far was a bael and a gommies package, and I was (sorry to say this, but) shitting liquid. It has been reaching 90 degrees almost every day. Untenable.

The next city was Wind Gap, Pennsylvania, 9 miles ahead. I could do this. There is a clinic without previous appointment in the city, and there were some places welcoming hikers to camp closer to the path. I would simply get some medications, camp and it would be good to go tomorrow.

We received a transport service to find ourselves as soon as we arrived at the parking lot in Wind Gap. They left us at the clinic and waited while they saw me.

He took me more than two hours to retire. I had heard before leaving the shelter and again when I was at the clinic. He had lost 5 pounds in a matter of 12 hours.

I had to reason with the practicing nurse, who was reluctant to prescribe without a stool sample. Unfortunately, these results would take too much time for this transitory hiker. He worried that he could have pancreatitis, but I said that my partner has the same symptoms in the same timeline.

Fortunately, this wonderful woman spoke with a superior and agreed to fill the long dose of flagyl for a week for me.

After 3 hours at the clinic, our transport drivers took us to CVS to fill a recipe at 8:45 pm close at 9 pm. Fortunately, they accelerated this. They left us at the Gateway motel, which allows hikers camping on their grass.

This was a terrible experience. We arrived late and the manager for our stay. We were not sure where we should configure the store because no one was close to go. We chose a place near the communal bath and start camping. This triggered some long -term motel guests to scream us. We find the right place in front of a busy road, under the street lamps, in front of these discontent residents of the motel. His whole family of 8 left his two motel rooms, smoking cigarettes, drinking beer and looking at us, his arms crossed, while we settled and ate some food. This felt quite demoralizing after such a long day.

Once we settled, we put the caps for the ears and managed to sleep quite fast.

The next day, I struggled to get out of bed. My whole section was crazy, and I felt very, very bad. Finally, I got up and sat with Nick for a moment. He did not seem so sure that we could continue in that state, with me barely capable of moving and his symptoms still persist.

We contemplated contacting a host, and I went to brush my teeth in the bathroom. I began to cry because I felt terrible in the mind, body and spirit. After gathering, I was able to brush my teeth, but this triggered a gag reflection, and I vomited everything else I had left. And to top it off, I started my period during this same bathroom. There was no doubt that I needed to get out of the way.

Nick called his parents, and quickly fixed us to pick them up.

That was all. The next twenty minutes were quite emotional to us. As much as I would like to get out of the way a few days before, I couldn’t believe that it was really happening. We needed to admit a temporary defeat and rest to finish this walk.

The long -term family finally woke up while we were preparing to leave and we spent an uncomfortable amount of time looking again. Good ridance, Gateway!

Nick’s parents fixed for their uncle Mark to pick us up. Then they gave us their grandmother Arlene’s house, so that Pat and John, his parents, were collected by their parents. This was executed, and we were in Mark’s car before noon and we returned west New York before 4 pm.

Great shout to Mark, Arlene, Pat and John for helping us extract with such urgency. Thank you endlessly for helping us continue with our trip.

I shower and lay down a little when we arrived. I finally felt comfortable. We left the clothes here before starting to walk, so we did not have to wear trail clothes in the predictable future.

We weren’t sure when we were going back to the track. Our greatest approach was to get rid of these stomach insects and nourish ourselves, and hopefully increase some weight.
