- Bonus miles: 1.2
Today was a day of bond. We have bonus miles, bonus heights, additional rain and additional food. We believe that it was all the other bonuses that required us to break the additional food.
In general, bonus miles don’t make us much. We are fully aware that we have a short distance for our hiking skill in the semi -automatized Trek kilAGe, since only the red line miles go there. We agree with that. Sometimes, all bonuses are added to a significantly different day.
Bonus 3/4 mile before breakfast
Last night we decided not to return to the picnic area so that the water prepares breakfast and for the walk of the days. Somehow, it seemed a good idea to go down again.
We slept well, not emerging until 7:10 am forty minutes later we were full and ready to start. Good for us.
We go along the access path again, hungry for breakfast. We obtained our water, we took our chia grout for breakfast and headed towards the path.
When our camp passed again, I noticed that it was a round trip of .75 miles, no .4 miles round trip, it should have been. Oh, well. We have a good start.
Bonus staircase heights
We always try to take a moment and appreciate the effort of the people who build our paths. Today, we find a long stretch of rock stairs that were high of the knee.
Building rock stairs is difficult. I have done it both on paths and in my gardens. Professionals are needed to discover how to stick in their place and ensure such huge rocks so they do not move.
I have to build less stairs is easier. I understand the desire to move hikers up or downstairs as quickly as possible. However, I am quite sure that most people do not have in them to increase an increase in a staircase of 20 to 28 inches.
A standard inner ladder is rarely more than 7.5 inches. Go three times that, with a package, requires additional effort. I realized that I was not the only one who had to use the edges of the path to raise myself up and down the bonus size steps on the two miles of the path they occupied.
Bonus and volunteer views
Once the humpback rock stairs, we obtained additional views of Glass Hollow.
We also had the bonus of gathering in person some of the Old Dominion Appalachian Trail Club volunteers. They had kindly trimmed the outstanding vegetation and wears the control of the infestation of the gypsy moth.
We greatly appreciate your efforts. We will asscribe the design of steps to some professional path builders.
Bonus plants
Our plant sightings today were real bonuses. We saw a great old oak.
We also saw hundreds, if not thoisands from METROONOTROPA UNIFLORA – Ghost plant or Indian pipe. These unique plants do not have chlorophyll, so they are essentially white to translucent. It is rare to see many, but we saw almost a quarter of acre in one place.
Additional rain
The weather forecast had not said rain for the next few days. Today, the humidity accumulated, apparently an additional amount, so we had electric storms in the afternoon.
It really was strangely an advantage, since the lightning was not so bad and the storm cooled in the hot day. Being wet for an hour of excursion was not a challenge how to be wet for days.
Bonus and bonus food hunger
With all our bonds today, we showed hunger for bond hikers. Instead of cooking a preasperated meal, I caught our supplies for delicious options.
Dinner was really satisfactory. We had a mixture of our dehydrated parts. We combine quinoa, chicken, beans, fajita condiments, cream cheese, Aove and homemade beans.
Anyway to cut it, it was an additional day!
