August 21 – Trail of the blue mountainsNe oregon
Reporting day!
My friend Gabriel was getting to know me in Austin’s house For my first replenishment on the path. Austin House is this little coffee in the middle of the forest, at the crossroads of highways 26 and 7. I was definitely ready for hot lunch and a cold drink. Gabriel had originally planned to drive his motorcycle from Portland, but instead he decided to drive his caravan, which worked very well. Due to his original plan, he had sent my refueling box directly to Austin House.
But first I had to get there. It was a gravel route walk mostly down, very easy. When I arrived at Highway 26, I followed an ancient road that was parallel to the road for most of the road to Austin House, but with a tree barrier, so he felt removed from the road. It is not that there was a lot of traffic there. The old road was really more a path due to regeneration plus trees. There was also a current that flows well there to soak up my hot feet.
I would call this old path plus a path than a path.
Blueberry cake
I introduced myself early and asked Mindy, one of the owners, for my refueling box. We talked a little and asked if I had many BMT through the hikers from there. She said: «Yes. We had 2 or 3 last year.» I had to laugh.
Then Gabriel appeared and we had a delicious lunch. He had a hamburger, a cold coca and some glasses of cold water. A week earlier, I had I stopped to reach the place because I was literally driving just passing Austin’s house on my way to the beginning of the BMT and had noticed his homemade cakes. A portion of his blueberry cake had often been in my thoughts in recent days. It was delicious!
Davis Creek path
After lunch, I got on the Gabriel truck and headed for Forest Road 2614, my route, to look for a good place to camp. It turns out that Davis Creek’s path is much closer to highway 26 of what my data sheet indicated, in addition, there is a good scattered camp there. Then, Gabriel took me back to the 26th Highway, I left my backpack in his truck and I just took a Gatorade for the 2 mile walk back to the path of Davis Creek and our camp.
It was very nice to walk without a backpack. And for camping in the afternoon. My feet hurt a lot at this point despite all the hiking I did before starting the BMT. I think it was all the gravel road that walked along the path. The feet nails in my two fingers were receiving blood blisters under them. That had never happened before. I must start wrapping them.
We had a very pleasant night catching up with some IPA. Years had spent since we had seen each other. And Gabriel prepared dinner, so I had two meals in the row that they were not backing food. Today was just the rest I needed! It was also an excellent way to celebrate my first 100 miles.
