Day 71: Chocolate milk, next generation paths and snakes

  • Calf Mountain Shelter (872.3) A Blackrock Hut (885.3)
  • 3009 feet ascent, 3091 feet decrease

When we ran into the cabin tonight, it was late and concentrated on taking us to bed. Leave my package from my back to the picnic table, I told the historian: «Do you want chocolate milk or dinner food?» Please say chocolate milk, I think for myself.

Everyone laughed in laughter when he said seriously: «Chocolate milk.» A shelter partner joked: «Of course, who would not want milk with dinner for dinner?»

Chocolate milk for dinner

Of course we want milk with chocolate for dinner. A good example of good nutrition. Bright lights of body respect for all the food.

In fact, it was bodily respect, but you had to go below the surface to understand. Chocolate milk is a regenerative serum drink sustainably with fair trade chocolate and without fake or sucrose sugars. It is full of things like fiber and vitamins. It is digested easy in hot and tired belly.

Also, I wanted to sleep, not have to cook and clean.

It was a long day

We start early today, anticipating heat and a walk of almost 14 miles with additional miles. The elevation score was almost level, 3009 feet higher and 3091 feet down. There would be rocks, and it was another 10 -mile water transport.

Add to that another day of heat wave and the recipe for high heat risk hiking was perfect.

Along the way, we managed to maintain a good constant rhythm. We stretch, but satisfied with our progress. What did not please us was the idea that all Shennandoah would be so busy. Up and down, up and down, up and down. I looked at tomorrow’s statistics. The miles were almost the same, but there were 33.3% less ascent or descent. I wanted 33.3% more sleeping to be ready.

Next Gen Trail maintains

We are pleased to gather and be able to personally thank many paths of trails. His arduous work makes the trail of the Apalaches what he is. Many people who offered as volunteers are on the most gray side, we are worried about what will happen in the coming years.

Today, we find part of the promising generation of the Potomic Apalachian Trail Club Trail maintainers.

Two young people accompanied their grandparents to clean the private. We loved the Squiggly faces made by the children while denouncing their future scooper status to go to the bathroom.

We also enjoy your worm!

What we knew, and we did not, was that all of us, at that age, we swore that we would not do the voluntary work of our parents, still, here we are. Most of us presented us with the voluntary work we do for our parents. It is good to transmit some traditions.

A snake in the grass

The historian has rarely seen snakes along the way. As generally fighting, and squeaky and jump back when I see a snake, they tend to jump from the way for when the historian stops behind me.

I don’t know if this snake was particularly bold or if I pressed less, but we looked at each other well. It was a sweet snake a, Thamnophis Sauritus SauritusThe snake of the eastern tape or the common tape snake

The possibility of consuming what we do not carry

Water transports are long and temperatures are hot. We drank a lot of water. We are not the only ones. Today, a line of hikers was based on a Skyline Drive parking lot, trying to be thirsty for passers -by giving us water from their cars.

Tomorrow will be our first chance on the way with Hurves. We are not sure if we are going to add the bonus miles to get there, but the opportunity that eats something we do not carry is in front of us.

We ate a lot of our «wet» food yesterday and today. It is heavy and pleasant to get out of our packages. We may not want to walk the additional effort along the way, after all, we have an additional dinner.
