Day 73 – Rest and rolling

On the 72nd day it was more or less as planned. I arrived in the city of Sierra just after 12 noon. I collected my refueling package, new Rei shoes, and registered in the Sierra City Hotel. I drank some beers, ate a lot of food and spent the rest of the day, relaxing, resting and cleaning.

I went down to have coffee just after 7 am this morning, and McQueen, Snap and Lightning McQueen, were in the lobby. It was great to see them, and I spent most of the day going out with them and telling stories about the path. Yesterday he reached 95 °, and today it was only a degree or two under that, so I sat on the front porch until almost 5 pm before taking it to the path. Some clouds that really helped the temperature drop entered, which is definitely facilitating the path despite the fact that it is currently a pain in the ass. The path is almost completely covered with places with thick plants, but the worst, at least for me, is that the path is in loose rock during the last miles of this climb, and is destroying my ankles while every third or fourth step leave. Apart from that, I feel pretty good. The 30 hours of rest have really made the difference in my legs and my mood. I am frustrated because it seems that I cannot navigate the rock loose in a way that I do not roll my ankles, but I will survive. It is a bit slower than I would like, but I probably have an hour and a half of sunlight, which should be enough to bring me water and enter a camp.
