Day 79: 15 miles: 13 Redline, 1 bonus and 1 secondary mission

  • Pass Mountain Hut (945.5) A Serla Springs Hut (959)

  • 2825 feet ascent, 3025 feet decrease

The red line miles are those miles of the points officially appointed and numbered on the trail of the Apalaches. The bonus miles are those that accumulate in private races, water collection or even to go to refugees located at a distance. Secondary missions are tactics of things that fall between Don Quijote and desire.

In almost any day, we accumulate about an additional mile. In general, we do not do secondary missions such as uploading a mountain to see the upper part or run to the city for a soda. Unlike other states, in Virginia, shelters and water sources add a surprising number of additional miles. They can be .3 a .5 of a mile in a way.

Burger Brain Side Quest

Today we woke up knowing that we were going to a secondary search. We had a Smash hamburger and shook our minds and very little food in our packages.

We had jumped the other side of the hamburger trying to focus on red miles and, to some extent, healthy eating. It was a commitment since Pass Mountain Hut is half a mile of the path and Grave Springs Hut was a quarter mile away. The bonus miles were locked in 3/4 if a mile to go with the 13 miles of the red line. Our secondary search had better taste.

Shennandoah broke hamburger

We hurry for a few hours to the way on the side of the road. The emotion was increasing with each step. The side path turned out to be a quarter of a mile, no .1 of one mile.

Our feet hit the earth more and faster, hamburgers in mind. Finally, we saw the promised land. Burgers ahead.

The road was busy, so we joined the long list of expectant hamburger seekers. The store had air conditioning, so the wait was pleasant. Finally, in possession of the objects of our desire, we leave and find a picnic table to enjoy our hamburgers.

Locked

Finally we move away from the road around 4 pm. Starting so late lead to one afternoon, but it also helps deal with the heat of the afternoon.

A pair of red line miles passing along the way, crossed the Skyline Drive and went back to the path through a fire road. Ensuring vehicle chain block was the most impressive block post we have seen.

Yellow publication with chain connected to him using multiple locks

We continue towards the cabin, laughing on the amount of locks. Nothing that occurred to us seemed a reasonable explanation for so many locks.

The last 4 miles were long. We were tired. At 5:30 pm, a storm was developed. Although dramatic, it did not create much precipitation where we were walking.

There is no space for dinner

After a total of 15 miles from Redline, Bonus and Side Quest, we finally arrived at the Grave Springs shelter. We register with our bellies. No, like the fire road, the chain was closed. Our bellies were still full.

The hamburger Smash did not need company. We were too full of lunch, even hours later. We had a power bar and hit the hay.
