Yesterday was a day of 21 miles. Late start, long breaks, smoke and warm weather, all caused a little mileage of the previous days. But I am very happy with 21 miles, and even happier with the fact that I feel rested this morning. Once again, I love walking with a group of friendly and fun people, but I need to walk this walk and finish this walk in my own terms. And those terms no longer include that he is too tired to walk at the 1 PM I will catch the people with whom I was walking in Mount Shasta, since they are taking a zero, but they will also move away from me there. While I am extremely young at heart and I do not think, at least, but I feel that my age, the great days of mile really take me a lot. I said this before, but as in life, I am always trying to find a balance.
Apart from taking care of my body, the best thing to reduce a bit is that I can know new hikers. Yesterday I met a woman who lives in New York City, and I could talk to her a little about my tentative plans to move there in the fall. It is very different from the atmosphere of the west coast, but I have been there enough to know that I will like it. In addition to her, the only other hikers I saw yesterday were a weekend game and a couple of hikers that I have bouncing during the last four or five days. I will not call anything to identification, but these two private hikers bother me a lot, since they seem to take each shortcut they can find. Not the shortcuts of Blaze Blue constantly cut the curves. Maybe it is different in northern California, but when growing walking in Washington, those shortcuts, especially after our sufficient people took them, erodes the path and cause washes. Senderos builders have done a fantastic job doing a path from Mexico to Canada. Why not walk on him when you can? You can return to the attitude of completing as many miles as you can in the face of having the best experience you can on the way. I cannot say if your behavior bothers me because it is potentially harmful to the area around the road, or if it seems strange to concentrate on miles compared to the experience. Maybe it’s a bit of both.
Fire smoke is much better this morning. Of course, yesterday was also quite good in the morning, but then horrible in the afternoon. Hoping that both mist and heat remain at moderate levels today so that it can advance on the road. I believe that smoke in the air contributes to additional dehydration. Yesterday I was dry all day even though I drank many liters of water.
The air quality was quite good throughout the morning, but that changed in the afternoon as I start descending. There is white smoke everywhere, breathing is not fun and my eyes are burning. My planned day stop point is at the bottom of this descent, where smoke can be at its worst time. We will see what happens.
It’s 6 pm, and I’m a mile and a half of the camping place that I attacked all day. It has been hot, smoked, Buggy and all the things that people love to hate about northern California. I have to say that even the dirty days here are fun, and I will always appreciate experiences. My clothes are soaked with sweat and ground covered, and I am still more than a day of a shower, and I don’t care. It is difficult to describe anyone who has not walked, but sometimes things can stink and be fun at the same time. It’s weird, but true.
