We stopped after 22 miles yesterday, which worked well for me. Upstream really wanted to do more, but we were running out of daylight. Snap, Upstream and Ligtning McQueen had left the camp when I got up at 5:30 am they are in a little time, so I begin to ask me if I will not see them again. I have some pain in my foot, so I am walking slowly, and they are trying to reach the bridge of the gods before August 10.
As I said before, all are incredible people and I love spending time with them, but I also like to choose my own adventure and follow my own rhythm. Actually, I know they need to collect a package in Etna on Monday morning, and I am reasonably sure that I will arrive on Sunday night, so I will have a last chance to greet and goodbye. We have just discovered yesterday that the section of the Etna Summit of the PCT, which has been closed due to fires, will open again today. For me, it is great news, since I really want to walk the whole path. For them, however, it is not so good, since they planned to get hooked in that short section. Now they also need to put those miles on the way. As I mentioned in the last publication, I take a few days off at Ashland to see some moves by Billy Shakes, then I’m going to take my ass to Snoqualmie, take a few days off at home and then finish. It is probably premature for me to speak of finishing when there are still more than 1000 miles for the end, so I think I need to get out of that mentality even though it feels so close.
My left foot has been bothering me the last days, but I think it is largely due to the massive size of the insensitive in the ball of my foot. I am quite sure that I can suffer the minor pain to Ashland, where I hope that a municable stone can bring my foot back to normal. With luck, that’s all, but most of the time you feel good. Occasionally, I take a wrong step and there is some shot pain, but fortunately that is weird. I am trying to be careful where to pass and follow a moderate rhythm when the ground is particularly unequal. That approach seems to be working well so far to keep the pain of the feet in an opaque pain.
After a great climb yesterday, I think the elevation changes today are quite soft. I hope even at my slow pace, I can make some reasonable miles.
