Day 97 – Last day in Cali

Last night I could do most of Seiad Valley’s climb while walking in the cool early air at night. I mentioned yesterday that my pack felt small, but I am happy to inform that I left nothing behind. I have not left any equipment since I started the path other than the inflatable pillow. I have had an inflatable pillow be Tosummit for years, and the first time I flew it along the way, I had a felt hole. I threw it to Julian, and I have been wearing my spare clothing bag like a pillow I once sent. However, I have been taking a couple of thermal socks from the beginning, in case one of the nights has cooled super. They only weigh a few ounces, but I’m going to send them home in Ashland. It really does not save space, or a remarkable weight, but I have a very warm dream, I am familiar with sleeping in Washington in September, and I am quite sure that I will not need them.

As usual, I am a little ahead of my planned rhythm. I planned to arrive at Ashland late in the afternoon the day after tomorrow, but with less than 50 miles for the end, it will be two quite easy days, followed by a morning arrival to Callahan Lodge, where I will probably have breakfast, and then I hooked Ashland. As I mentioned before, I hope to take three complete zeros in Ashland. I have a growing list of hiker tasks, mainly cleaning, to take care, and although I know it will be difficult to be on the way, I am anxious to rest and recharge. I already made an appointment for a haircut and beard, as well as a massage. After living in a tent, most of the last 97 days, I want to be a bit decadent for just a few days.

Burned trees and fog

The blows in the climb of the Seiad Valley are insignificant, but the rumor is that the next section is miserable. However, given absolute fear and exaggeration in distant comments, I am not sure what to really expect. The path will give me what it gives me, and I will do what I can to continue north.
