Difficult times: I will make you ask you why you try (500 mile PCT update)

Path thoughts

I can’t tell you how many times I have touched the song ‘Hard Times of Paramore in this section in the desert. It is different from any hiking that you have done, even in the AZT. Sudor dripped the face at 9 am, sometimes even at 7 am climbing mountains in more than 90 degrees. Have to stop in the middle of the day to crawl under a bush of tip and try to take a nap, but it is impossible to fall asleep. Night hiking until midnight to try to get into the miles. Waking up early the next day, deprived of sleep and doing everything again.

This path will make you feel raw and vulnerable sometimes, but also extremely empowered. There are no distractions of your emotions here. Your friends you just met a month ago will see you at your best and the worst. I appreciate the rude women with whom I have walked so much. When a person is overestimulated/overwhelmed/having a Mary B, someone else takes care of decisions and responsibilities. We can quickly recognize the signs of others that we head in that direction, and automatically intervene. We have to have a completely open communication about our thoughts and feelings, or otherwise we will not be able to walk together. We have to know the expectations of others on the path and the days of the city. It’s hard work, but it’s worth it!

A spectacular day in the hot springs

Ok, now the funniest updates! In this section of miles, one of my favorite parts was to reach natural hot springs. It was right next to the path! Tunes and I got there around 8 am. Before seeing the hot springs, we decided that we would stay there for perhaps one hour maximum. 3 hours later, we had to drag us away from that magical place. There were multiple hot springs that were different temperatures, and then the huge area of the river that was a fresh and cold temperature. It was absolutely beautiful, and a very necessary update of the heat of the desert!

After forcing us from, we walk the rest of the hot and completely exposed section and we arrive at the parking lot where the owner of the Joshua Inn will pick it up and take him to the Posada/Restaurant. It turns out that it is a dollar ticket bar! Obviously, Tunes and I had to draw a dollar ticket and set it to the ceiling. Then we ordered Uber Eats and obtained the largest party of impossible cheese hamburgers, 3 orders of fried and smoothies! A dream come true. Shortly after, our friends advanced Avena, Fireball, Kat and Matt. We chatted and laugh until finally it was time for the songs and I went out at night to finish our last miles. We may have exaggerated it with our party, because we were a bit gaseous. We laugh while we both explode our tents that were right next to the other all night.

The next day, it was difficult for both of us, since we were exhausted but we still had to wake up early. Fortunately, he had a beautiful place to go to the lake to wait. I have to sit at a picnic table (a real luxury!), Stretch, have lunch and see a beautiful couple of ducks sleep next to the water. I finally continued and arrived at the early camp. I fell asleep with the lovely sound of the trains in the distance, which took me back to the times I slept in my grandparents’ house when I was a child.

The Pink Potato Club, gathered!

Another highly exciting point was to get to Wrightwood and meet Lost! Tunes and I immediately go to the groceries when we arrive in the city. We had a random meal directly outside the ice pop supermarket, a giant pickles and fries. He gave the place! Lost walked towards us with gifts (cold drinks and chocolate) and we were very excited to see her! We all spend the day hanging out in the cafeteria that gives free coffee to PCT hikers. Tunes and I spent the night in a Trail Angels garage. It is not the best stay, but it is not the worst!

All our brain power had to discover what to do with the closure of fire that came out of Wrightwood. After zero accidentally, we decided that the best plan was to make the 16 -mile walk and connect back to the path from there. The road walks are not fun, but we did not want to have to omit more than 60 miles hooking the closure. Then, we had a beautiful pajamas party with the lost in a small room for ourselves in Bud Pharm. We fell asleep, all aligned with each other in our sleeping pads looking at the last of us.

After separating from the lost again (he decided to jump a lot from the desert and start walking through the mountains), the melodies and I were collected by a kind path of path that we met the day before. He asked if we needed a trip in the morning, and said we did it but that we needed to be collected at 6 in the morning. We were surprised that he agreed! The road walk began softly at 6:30 am, it was a bit fun to walk in the middle of the road without people or cars around! We crossed those flat miles and returned to the path. Hard for the feet, but in general it is not too terrible.

A CELEBRATION OF THE FOLLOW -UP

A few days later, we arrive at our one -month Trailiversary! It was such an exciting milestone. We decided to stay in the 49r room because they had a huge vegan menu, very unexpected for a small city. Tunes and I erased again, asking for potato skins, french fries, hamburgers, garlic bread and apple with ice cream. Soon I realized that this was a mistake, and I had to walk outside for a while to avoid vomiting. UPS!

More milestones to come

Another great day on the path was when I passed 485 miles, which is the length of the Colorado path. That was officially the most remote that had gone on a single path at the same time! I was extremely proud of myself for this. It will be interesting to see what it is like to live on a path for 4 to 5 months and how it changes me. The last days before hitting Mile 500 they had some beautiful shaded trees and fresh breezes sometimes. It helped me inspire me to move on. I was ready to face the rest of the desert!
