Diogo Jota’s no. 20 Sweater in Liverpool will be retired by the club in memory of the Portuguese attacker who died tragically on Thursday in a car accident in Spain.
«The No. 20 will rightly be immortalized for his contributions as part of the title winners of Liverpool 2024-25-the 20th of the Club-with his trademark Shimmy and Strike for the headline for the victory in the Merseyside Derby a moving last goal of his life in April,» the club announced in a tribunal to the former player.
Tribute from everywhere in the football community and otherwise arrived for the Jota, 28, and his brother Andre Silva, 26, who also died in the accident.
Jota, born in Porto, started his gaming career through the youth arrangement of Paços de Ferreira before moving to Atlético Madrid in 2016, followed by a loan period at Porto and a transfer to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.
But it was in Liverpool that he had his best professional Stint, winning the FA Cup and League Cup under Manager Jurgen Klopp before he would overcome in the Premier League under Arne Slot in the 2024/25 season.
He was also part of the Portugal team that won the UEFA Nations League in 2019 and 2025.
